I'm Sleeping Out
It will be uncomfortable. It will be cold and dark. But for one night I can give up the comforts of home knowing that - by doing so - I can bring warmth and hope to young people who need it most.
Thousands of kids spend each night on the unforgiving streets of our great cities. Countless others are staying with relatives or friends, dreading the day when there is no one else to take them in. And one night can make a difference.
On November 16, I’ll lay my sleeping bag down on the sidewalk near the corner of New York Avenue and North Capital Street to raise money for Covenant House DC and awareness for teen homelessness. CHDC the largest and most successful non-profit in the area in providing a continuum of care for homeless teens. The kids they work with typically have no family, limited education, and few prospects for a fulfilling life. CHDC gives them shelter, clothes, education and, most importantly, love. If my one night of sleeping out can contribute in some small way to helping Covenant House continue its mission, then I’ll do so with a smile on my face and joy in my heart.
