I am sleeping out on November 16th as an expression of solidarity with nearly one million homeless youth across the nation and here in New Orleans. I live and own property in the French Quarter, a few blocks from CHNO. I see the effects of homelessness and other dysfunctions every day in the Quarter, especially among the city's youth...just by walking down the street.
For one night, I can give up the comforts of home knowing it can bring warmth and hope to young people who need it most.
I worked in Programs at Covenant House New Orleans from 2001 until 2009. I used to call it "God's Work". Utterly rewarding. And I feel a duty to support it now. Under Jim Kelly's leadership, CHNO is in as strong a position as ever to be one of the critical social service providers of the City of New Orleans.
I am pledging $100 per member up to 20 members ($2,000 total). Our team is targeted towards current and past Tulane Law students and Tulane School of Social Work students (I have a degree from both schools and have taught at the TSSW as a Field Instructor). Team membership includes 2018 "Tulane Law & Social Work Mardi Gras Package" (Entrance to the Louisiana Cannabis Foundation Open Bar French Quarter Balcony Party Friday February 9th 2018 PLUS Mardi Gras Day Private Bourbon-Orleans Balcony/Bathoom Access). Team members are expected to try to raise at least $100.00 in addition to the 100 dollar match. Thank You. However, if anyone was particularly interested in joining our team and did not have an affiliation with either school...most likely, how could we turn them down (-;]
