I'm Sleeping Out
On April 28th, I'll be participating in my 4th Sleep Out to help the kids at Covenant House. I’ll be getting to know some young people who live at the shelter and learn how they are using the services available to them through this organization to build new lives for themselves. Then, at midnight, when the kids go to sleep in their beds with pillows and blankets of their own, I’ll head outside with a cardboard box and a sleeping bag, to look for an unoccupied piece of pavement.
Covenant House is an incredible organization that not only provides these kids with a safe place to stay, but also provides them with countless other services including job training, healthcare, educational support, and legal services among others. By providing these kids with safety, security, and basic needs, they are able to not only get off the streets but to get on their feet, reach their goals, and break the cycle of homelessness.
Over the years I've met some of the most incredible and resilient kids at Cov, who crack jokes and dream big and work hard just like anyone else their age. As Kevin Ryan always says "Homelessness is the least interesting thing about them"- but it can be the most limiting. I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to support these amazing kids, but I can't do it without you.
